'Depression? I Don't Know...' Deschamps Joins Debate on Mbappé's Mental Health

Deschamps talks about depression and Konaté adds that he'll always be willing to help him with his psychological issues

In France, things are getting out of hand with Kylian Mbappé. Now the idea has spread that the Real Madrid star has mental issues.

The debate is currently focused on Mbappé's mental health. This arises from the fact that Didier Deschamps hasn't included him in his last two drafts for the national team.

"Mbappé Has Psychological Problems"

" He is going through a very difficult situation," Deschamps explained, without specifying what he meant.

He added, out of the blue, that “if Kylian has psychological problems in his life, we will always be there to help him. Should we talk about depression? I don’t know.”

Deschamps didn't define the situation as "depression", but rather as "psychological fragility".

The French coach, who has direct contact with Mbappé, insists that the Real Madrid player is going through a difficult time.

"He's been less effective in 2024, but I see no reason to think that he won't return to his level. He is going through a difficult moment, but he has everything for a comeback."

"It is the Head that Controls the Legs"

That's how Deschamps expressed it on TF1's Telefoot program. He linked Mbappé's mental problems with his exposure on social media. He hinted that this affects his emotional well-being and his performance.

The coach recalled that "a footballer is a human being. The atmosphere is different because today there's exposure and the smallest word can have great repercussions."

He also blamed the schedule: "The demands are getting higher and higher."

And he recalled that regarding the fatigue caused by the matches, "it is the head that controls the legs", thereby hinting at the origin of a possible depression.

"Kylian has a Mental Problem"

Ibrahima Konaté, the Real Madrid star's teammate, also spoke about the "exceptional pressure that Mbappé is under." He went further, addressing Mbappé: "I want your level of soccer, but I don't want your life."

And he insisted that “if Kylian has psychological problems in his life, we'll always be there to help him.”

Infobae has reported that "an anonymous source, who according to the media interacts daily with Mbappé, indicated that 'Kylian has had a mental issue for several months' and that he's working with specialists to overcome it."
