Confirmed, Nacho Peña Drops the Bombshell About Luka Modric: 'next Year...'

Real Madrid's defense is being reconfigured, with possible departures and arrivals that will shape the team's future

The future of Real Madrid continues to make headlines. With planning for the next season underway, the uncertainties about who will remain on the team and which signings will arrive are still hanging in the air. Among the names that resonate the most are Trent Alexander-Arnold, Lucas Vázquez, Dani Carvajal, and, of course, Luka Modric.

The journalist Nacho Peña, on Telemadrid, has made it clear that significant changes are coming. One of the most sensitive topics is the continuity of the legendary Croatian midfielder.

Last Season for Luka Modric?

Modric, who has been a key piece in Madrid's midfield for more than a decade, faces an uncertain future. Nacho Peña has been direct about the Croatian's situation:

"He really has it tough too. We know that from the age of 30, Real Madrid always renews its footballers annually, and Luka has that option. He's a legend, but the problem is that he's not handling his residual role well this season."

At 39 years old in 2025, Modric continues to demonstrate his quality, but his prominence has diminished. This year he has had fewer minutes, and although he remains important within the locker room, the white management is starting to look to the future.

Additionally, the Croatian has interesting offers from Saudi Arabia and the United States. Unlike previous seasons, in which he decided to stay at Madrid rejecting million-dollar proposals, this time it seems he might say farewell.

The Right Back Also Changes

Another topic Nacho Peña addressed was the arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Englishman is a priority to strengthen the right back, complicating Lucas Vázquez's continuity.

"It's very difficult for Lucas Vázquez to renew. I'd say it's extremely difficult because, basically due to competition, he will be relegated; Alexander-Arnold is coming, and Dani Carvajal is recovering. Lucas Vázquez would become the third wheel," the journalist noted.

The management's idea is to rejuvenate the squad and ensure that the right flank has a reference for the next decade. Carvajal still has some time left, but the signing of Alexander-Arnold would completely change the landscape.

The Defense, Another Big Question Mark

The left back is also a point of debate. Ferland Mendy seemed to have one foot out of the team, but the non-signing of Alphonso Davies could give him another chance.

"With Mendy, a window opens because Alphonso Davies won't come. He might be able to stay, considering that Bayern has renewed the Canadian and that along with Fran García, they might be able to cover that position in some way," Peña commented.
