Biscotto in the Champions League? Atalanta's coach warns Real Madrid: 'I think that...'

The Atalanta coach issues a warning to Real Madrid ahead of the crucial match against Barcelona

Atalanta will face Barcelona in the last matchday of the Champions League group stage. Many are already speculating about the possibility of a "biscotto," an Italian term that refers to a prearranged draw that benefits both teams.

This possible outcome could frustrate Real Madrid's slim chances of getting into the top eight, which would allow them to avoid the additional play-off of the competition.

The miracle Real Madrid needs

The white team has minimal chances of finishing in the top eight. For this, they would need a series of quite unlikely combinations.

Teams like Bayern, Borussia Dortmund, Leverkusen, Arsenal, Monaco, Feyenoord, and Aston Villa would have to win or lose according to a complicated set of results.

However, even if these results occurred, Real Madrid would still depend on a favor from Barcelona.

If the culés draw or lose against Atalanta, Ancelotti's team would automatically be out of the Top-8. Only a Barcelona victory would give them a small chance to qualify.

Gasperini hints at the possibility

Atalanta's coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, hinted in a press conference that a draw in Montjuïc might be enough for his team:

"We know perfectly well that the goal is to reach the round of 16. Overall, I am very happy with our journey. Our schedule was very difficult, with Real Madrid and Arsenal, I think a draw is enough for us."

These words have fueled suspicions of a tacit agreement between Atalanta and Barça to secure a result that suits both.

An Atalanta proud of its performance

Beyond the speculations, Gasperini expressed satisfaction with his team's performance in this Champions League.

"I am very happy with our journey. After facing Real Madrid and Arsenal, it is a satisfaction to have come this far. We know perfectly well what it has cost us to reach this position."

For the Italian coach, achieving a good result in Montjuïc would be the confirmation of the great work done by his team.

However, Atalanta will face this decisive match with a significant absence: Ademola Lookman, their star forward, who suffered a knee injury and will not be available.

Biscotto or simple coincidence?

The question remains: will Atalanta be competitive against Barça or will they settle for a draw that ensures their qualification?

Real Madrid will be closely watching the match, but their fate seems to depend too much on others. In football, waiting for favors is never a reliable strategy.
