In recent days, Real Madrid has experienced several internal tensions, especially between Federico Valverde and coach Carlo Ancelotti. The discontent originated after the defeat against AC Milan. Valverde was substituted at half-time, a decision that surprised many, including those close to the player.
Mina Bonino, Valverde's partner, expressed her discontent on social media. She questioned the position in which the footballer was used and the decision to replace him, although she ended up deleting the post.
The situation is further complicated by the recent injuries to key players. During the match against Osasuna, Real Madrid lost three players in the first half: Rodrygo and Lucas Vázquez suffered muscle injuries. These will keep them off the field for approximately a month.
Meanwhile, Éder Militão suffered a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament and damage to both menisci in his right leg. The Brazilian will be out of action for around nine months.
These losses have left the team with a weakened defense, with only five players available: Lunin, Rüdiger, Fran García, Vallejo and Mendy. The list of injured players includes Courtois, Carvajal, Lucas Vázquez, Militão, Alaba and Tchouaméni, the latter of whom could act as a center-back in an emergency.
Fede Valverde Already Knows What He's Going to Get
Given this situation, Ancelotti has considered Fede Valverde as the main option to cover the right-back spot. The Uruguayan already occupied that position during the second half of the match against Osasuna. In addition, the possibility of giving opportunities to youngsters such as Jesús Fortea is being considered. The Castilla player is registered in the Champions League and has trained with the first team.
The decision to use Valverde as a right-back has caused concern in the player's entourage, who prefers to play in more offensive positions or in midfield. However, the current situation of the team requires taking exceptional measures to maintain competitiveness, especially with crucial matches on the horizon, such as the clash at Anfield.
Ancelotti and his coaching staff face the challenge of reorganising the defense and maintaining the team's performance in the midst of these adversities. At least, until the winter transfer market, when Florentino is considering several new transfers. At the moment, it seems almost obligatory for Real Madrid to sign one or two defenders.
