Buying a car isn't an easy task. There are so many brands, models, prices, and styles. Even though we can compare everything from home nowadays, making the right choice is still a challenge, especially if you don't know much about the subject.
But there's a brand that has caused many complaints recently. If you own one of its models, you could receive money in return. We're talking about Mazda.
What's happening with Mazda?
Mazda, a fairly popular Japanese brand, is at the center of a controversy in the United States. The reason? Several of its cars were sold with technical issues in their multimedia system, called Mazda Connect.

This system controls functions such as GPS, calls, music, or the rearview camera. Many users reported that it stopped working properly: the screen would turn off by itself, the sound would fail, or it would restart unexpectedly.
This, besides being annoying, could be dangerous. Imagine driving and the screen suddenly turns off. It's an unnecessary distraction that, on the road, can be very serious.
Which models are affected?
This isn't an isolated case. Several models are involved in this problem:
- Mazda 2
- Mazda 3
- Mazda 6
- Mazda CX-3
- Mazda CX-5
- Mazda CX-9
These vehicles were sold in the United States with these technological issues. Faced with numerous complaints, consumers decided to take action.

The legal response and compensation
In the United States, owners of these affected Mazda vehicles filed a class action lawsuit. Mazda has replied. To avoid further lawsuits, the brand has offered a legal settlement with two possible compensations:
- Extension of the Mazda Connect system warranty for an additional 24 months (24 meses).
- Financial compensation of up to $1,750, if you show that you paid for repairs related to these issues.
- This agreement aims to repair the damage caused by a factory defect. Yes, you might also be entitled to that money.
What should you do?
If you own one of these Mazda models and have experienced problems with the multimedia system, it's time to take action. Pay attention: there are key dates you need to keep in mind.
- You have until July 2, 2025 to reject or object to the settlement.
- The final deadline to file a claim is August 1, 2025.
- You'll need proof: repair invoices, photos, or any document that shows your car had issues and you paid to fix them.
Many times we assume that problems in a car are due to use or time, but that's not always the case. In this instance, the fault was the manufacturer's and Mazda has acknowledged it, at least in part.
