Tesla faces an unexpected but very real threat. It's not a new regulation or an internal crisis. This time, the blow comes from China, which has just unveiled a pickup truck with clear intentions to dethrone the famous Cybertruck.
It's called GAC Pickup 01 and it's already being nicknamed "the Chinese Cybertruck." Why? Its design is similar, but it's not a simple copy. What worries Elon Musk is that this pickup truck promises to be more advanced, cheaper, and more versatile. China doesn't just want to compete: it wants to lead the game.
Aggressive design, bold technology
The GAC Pickup 01 doesn't go unnoticed. It has straight lines, a futuristic look, and a vibe reminiscent of those cars from science fiction movies. Many see clear inspiration from the Cybertruck, but also from the GMC Hummer EV. It seems like a fusion of both, with its own personality.

The interior also impresses. Panoramic central screen, a steering wheel that slides from left to right, and a semi-autonomous driving system that puts pressure on Tesla. Although the engine hasn't been defined, its platform allows for several options and adapts to any market.
The perfect alternative to the Cybertruck?
What stands out the most is its possible price. It's estimated to cost between $50,000 and $70,000, which puts it in a more competitive range than the Cybertruck. For those looking for a futuristic vehicle without paying the Tesla price, this could be the ideal option.
GAC has also been clear: Pickup 01 won't stay in China. They already plan to bring it to Mexico, Chile, Australia, and Saudi Arabia. The launch is scheduled for 2027, but its arrival in Latin America could happen earlier.
China no longer just manufactures for the world: it wants to sell the world vehicles that lead in design and technology.
Tesla, at its most uncomfortable moment
The Cybertruck, once considered a revolution in the industry, is now in trouble. It has suffered delays, has high production costs, and more than 10,000 units (10,000) remain unsold. Now, a direct rival appears, cheaper, just as striking, and possibly more advanced.
Elon Musk hasn't replied publicly yet, but the blow is obvious. The Cybertruck that promised to dominate the market now has serious competition. The most painful part: that competition is laughing in its face.
The GAC Pickup 01 isn't a simple copy; it's a statement of intent. China wants to win. Tesla, if it doesn't react soon, could be left out of the game in one of the industry's most desired segments.
