Jorge Rey's forecasts have become one of the main attractions of the summer. At 18 years old, this young man from Burgos doesn't need supercomputers or satellite data to predict the weather. He only needs to observe nature, follow ancient meteorological patterns, and, above all, rely on a system many thought was obsolete: las cabañuelas.
This method, with centuries of tradition, is based on studying the behavior of the weather during the first days of January to anticipate the weather for the following months of the year. According to him, August is coming full of surprises.
Heat yes... but with fine print
Jorge Rey has been clear in his diagnosis. Although a hot August is expected in general terms, there will be important nuances.
"We can't talk about a dry and stable month like other summers. There will be significant stormy episodes," he warned in his latest video.
The young climatologist explained that this year's cabañuelas point to an August with very marked contrasts. In his words: "The hottest days will be followed by bursts of cold air and intense storms." Therefore, the beach bar will have direct competition from the umbrella in some areas of the country.

Risk of hail and sharp drops
One of the most striking aspects of Jorge Rey's forecast is the high risk of hailstorms in areas of the north and east of the peninsula. According to his observations, "the precipitation won't be continuous, but it will be locally very intense."
He also foresees a significant drop in temperatures in the second half of the month. That will make more than one person start putting away their swimsuit earlier than usual.
In particular, he warns of sudden storms that could coincide with key moments of the holidays. "Anyone planning a getaway should take possible weather shocks into account," he emphasized.
August 2024, the mirror?
To reinforce his arguments, Jorge Rey relied on what happened last year. "August 2024 was already a strange month, with occasional heat waves but less persistent and destructive storms. This year could be even more unstable," he said.
Although he acknowledges that his method doesn't have the scientific accuracy of conventional meteorology, he insists that "nature speaks if you know how to listen." His followers, who already number in the hundreds of thousands, follow him as if he were the weather oracle.
Will he get it right again?
This isn't the first time Jorge Rey has been spot on. In the past, he already predicted the arrival of Filomena or drastic changes that caught many professional meteorologists off guard. Now, with his August forecast on the table, many will look to the sky again... but with his warnings in mind.
