Amazon never ceases to amaze, and in the midst of a competitive market and changing consumer habits, Jeff Bezos's company keeps gaining ground. What's its latest move? A strategic change that could deal a blow to Walmart and attract millions of users in the United States. Do you want to know how you can take advantage of it to watch free content?
Amazon grows steadily
Although the global economic outlook isn't always easy, Amazon had an excellent first quarter in 2025. Its net sales grew by 9% compared to the previous year, with revenue exceeding $17 billion. That's almost 40% more than in the same period in 2024.
This growth is also reflected in Amazon Prime, the subscription service that today costs $14.99 per month. More and more Americans are choosing it for fast shipping, exclusive discounts, and access to Prime Video, Amazon's streaming platform.

In 2024, Amazon Prime reached an impressive 180 million subscribers in the United States alone. That number is expected to rise to 185 million this year, consolidating the service's popularity.
Goodbye Freevee, hello free Prime Video
One of the most striking new developments is the elimination of Freevee, Amazon's free streaming service that was launched in 2019. Freevee offered thousands of movies, series, and entertainment channels at no cost, through apps on devices like Apple TV, Roku, or Playstation 5.
However, Amazon decided to "cut the cord" and migrate all that content to Prime Video. The big news? Although Prime Video is part of Amazon Prime, now you'll be able to access that content for free, with no subscription required.
Starting in August 2025, Freevee will disappear. However, Amazon assures that you can keep watching your favorite shows and much more on Prime Video, without paying anything or creating a Prime account. It's a move to simplify the experience and attract more viewers to its platform.
Why this strategy?
Amazon knows that competition is fierce, especially with Walmart and other giants that also want to capture the attention of the American consumer.

In addition, the company is betting heavily on advertising revenue. In the first quarter of 2025, this revenue grew by 17% compared to the previous year. Amazon Prime Video began showing ads in 2024, a decision that caused criticism, but also revenue that helps keep the service going.
By offering free content, Amazon competes with PlutoTV and Tubi, which use ads to fund their streaming. In fact, almost half of Americans already watch TV through these options.
What does it mean for you?
If you live in the United States, you'll soon be able to enjoy movies and series on Prime Video without paying for a Prime subscription or subscribing to Freevee. You'll just need to download the app and start watching.
This move by Amazon not only complicates the competition with Walmart, but also changes the rules of the streaming game. The era of paying for everything may be giving way to hybrid models that combine free content with advertising.
