Xavi Hernández Warns and Prepares His Betrayal to Barça in Spain: ‘Why Not?’

The FC Barcelona legend opens up to the possibility of continuing to coach in LaLiga.

So far, Xavi Hernández hadn't spoken publicly since his dismissal from Barça. The coach, who remains unemployed and won't return to the sidelines until next season, has opened up in France Football... where he has left open the possibility of coaching in Spain.

"I don't have anything predetermined, I'm open. Why not coach another LaLiga team? I'm looking for an exciting project, I have the ambition to win trophies. This is the main goal and I will be listening to different offers," Xavi Hernández pointed out.

In this regard, he said: "I like to see teams that play the ball in one way or another. Coaches like Pep Guardiola (Manchester City), Arne Slot (Liverpool), Bayern Munich of Vincent Kompany. But also the championships of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Portugal..."

Xavi didn't hold back about his goals: "I want my players to have fun, develop attractive soccer for the fans, and win titles. I want to win the Champions League, the Euro Cup, the World Cup..."

Xavi Hernández talks about his time at Barça

He also has words to analyze his time on the Barça bench: "My first year and a half at Barça was very, very good. We had a good project with Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cruyff. It allowed us to finish second in La Liga, before winning the championship in 2023, in addition to the Spanish Super Cup."

"Then, the results were less good. The departures of Jordi and Mateu were a hard blow." He added: "In retrospect, our results are very positive... because the club was in one of the worst situations in its history, even worse than in the early 2000s."

"Expectations were very high compared to my history. My deep attachment to Barça sometimes did me no favors, perhaps sometimes I was too sentimental. This adventure though was a true learning experience," he concluded,

Xavi Hernández at Barça: His numbers

During his time as coach of FC Barcelona, Xavi Hernández led the blaugranas in a total of 143 matches. His numbers are 91 wins, 23 draws, and 29 losses across all competitions.

In 2021, he made the decision to accept Laporta's proposal, after three years coaching in Qatar. He ended his stint at Barça in 2024, after having won two titles: 1 La Liga and 1 Spanish Super Cup.

Records that were insufficient for Xavi Hernández to continue at Barça, despite having renewed his contract months earlier... and despite Laporta endorsing his continuity just weeks before showing him the door. Now, his next team could be in Spain: he doesn't close any doors.
