FC Barcelona needs to have Dani Olmo's registration completed before January 1st. This is a race against time and Joan Laporta knows it firsthand. There are several proposals on the table that could help, although it's true that none are being negotiated by Barça itself. The plan is clear: register Olmo legally and then, with various departures, register him permanently.
In recent years, Barça has been keeping the possibility of continuing earning money from the sales of its younger players. It seems that in January there will be two operations that will help it continue earning millions, although it's true they are not yet finalized. The first one is Óscar Mingueza, whose clause is 20 million euros and who will leave Celta in the coming weeks.
Mingueza won't return to Barça because his destination seems already settled: RB Leipzig. Reports indicate that the Germans will pay his clause in the coming weeks. Out of these 20 million euros, Barça will directly receive 10 into its coffers without needing to lift a finger. The possibility of bringing him back was available, but it certainly hasn't been seriously considered at any time by the team presided over by Laporta.
24 Million More to Register Dani Olmo: Barça Hits the Jackpot
As if the 10 million to be received for Óscar Mingueza weren't enough, there is apparently another operation underway that could financially benefit FC Barcelona.
Liverpool has decided to firmly bet on Nico González after being unable to sign Zubimendi. Nico—son of Fran, the legendary Super Dépor player—stood out in Barça's youth academy. He appeared in the first team alongside Gavi in 2023. Xavi was the one who gave him the opportunity.
However, he always had a secondary role in the shadow of an emerging Gavi who grabbed all the headlines. He gradually lost prominence until Laporta decided to sell him to Porto with Deco's blessing.
Barça received 8.4 million euros for Nico's sale. The club retained a buy-back option for 30 million, as well as a 40% of his rights in case of a future transfer.
Porto has set Nico's release price at 60 million euros and Liverpool is willing to pay that amount. If the open secret already circulating at Anfield is confirmed, Barça would receive 24 million from the operation. It will be unexpected money that would cover many gaps in Joan Laporta's accounting.
To the 10 million received for Óscar Mingueza, another 24 for Nico González could be added. In total, 34 "rocks" that would be key for the definitive registration of Dani Olmo.
