U-turn, the New Cristiano Ronaldo Rejects Barça: He Already Has a New Team

Jorge Mendes offered him to Barça, but he will finally play in the Premier League: transfer definitively fallen through

Barça had been exploring the possible arrival of Geovany Quenda, a Portuguese winger who is directly compared to Cristiano Ronaldo. He has had issues with his current club, Sporting, and after numerous rumors, it has now been confirmed what his next destination will be. Chelsea will pay between 45 and 50M euros to acquire him starting June 30, 2026, according to The Athletic.

There have been rumors pointing to the possible free departure of Geovany Quenda from the Lisbon team, something that hasn't come to pass. There were issues with his contract, and he tried to leave completely free, having been linked to numerous clubs, such as Barcelona. However, to avoid problems, Jorge Mendes, his agent, has reached an agreement for him to move to Chelsea.

Chelsea, which has endless money for multiple signings, has decided to let him play in Portugal during the next season. He is important at Sporting de Portugal, where he has played 43 matches this season at just 17 years old. He has scored two goals and provided eight assists, leaving a great impression on the field and becoming one of the biggest promises in all of Europe.

Barça Couldn't Afford Geovany Quenda

Despite Mendes putting his name on the table for Deco and Laporta, the reality is that Geovany Quenda had become an impossibility. At Barça, his quality was highly valued, but due to the current delicate economic situation, it was decided not to make this financial commitment. The Portuguese prioritized the possibility of playing at the new Spotify Camp Nou, but seeing that this had become a pipe dream, he decided to go to Chelsea.

Barça was very interested in Geovany Quenda, especially because of his potential status as a free and completely free player. Seeing that this was very unlikely to happen, and that there was a bid to secure his services, the decision was made to decline the offer.

This means that, almost certainly, Barcelona will say goodbye almost definitively to Geovany Quenda. The winger will sign a contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2033, with the possibility of extending it for twelve more months. Considering that he will not have a release clause, it seems impossible that, if he excels, he could leave the English club in the coming years.
