Robert Lewandowski’s Successor Won’t Play for Barça: He Agreed to Join Arsenal

The transfer market is moving strongly, and one of the most sought-after names has already decided his future

Barcelona continues to map out its roadmap for the 2025/26 season. The Catalan club needs to strengthen its attack, aware that Robert Lewandowski, at 36 years old, is no longer what he used to be. That's why, for months, they've been scouring the market in search of a forward who can take on part of the offensive spotlight.

One of the names most favored by the sporting management was Viktor Gyökeres. A powerful striker, with a nose for goal and in full footballing maturity. However, that desire won't be fulfilled.

Gyökeres: Heading to London

Everything indicates that Viktor Gyökeres won't wear the blaugrana jersey. According to the French press, the Swedish striker has a closed deal with Arsenal. The "Gunners" have moved quickly and would already have agreed to a five-year contract with the Sporting de Portugal forward.

Mikel Arteta sees him as the missing piece in his squad. Arsenal, which came close to winning the Premier League last season, is looking for a pure "killer" to finally make the definitive leap. Gyökeres fits that profile perfectly.

A major signing

The Swede's numbers are impressive. This season, with Sporting, he scored 54 goals and provided 13 assists in 52 matches, a stellar performance that didn't go unnoticed in Europe. Atlético de Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Juventus also inquired about him.

But Arsenal has been the most determined. Most importantly, it's the player's preferred destination.

Barça is out of the race

At Can Barça, the chances of signing Gyökeres are fading. The club can't compete financially with the figures being discussed. The striker's official release clause is €100 million, although there's talk of a possible exit for around €60-70 million.

Even so, that figure remains unfeasible for a Barça that's still balancing its books and prioritizing more affordable signings. In addition, the player's intentions have been clear: he wants to play in the Premier League.

Arsenal pressures Sporting

Gyökeres's contract situation also works in Arsenal's favor. Starting July 1, any offer above €60 million forces Sporting to compensate the player's agent if they reject it. This puts pressure on the Portuguese club to negotiate seriously.

If everything goes as planned, Gyökeres will be a "Gunner" this summer. His arrival could be one of the biggest bombs of the English market.
