'sorpasso' in the Champions League: Barça Is Already Ahead of Real Madrid

The Champions League gives Barça a breather in its financial struggles

Real Madrid has 15 European Cups/Champions Leagues. Barça has 5. There is a long way to go to match results, but the blaugrana club is starting to leave the Whites behind.

In the current Champions League, Barça reached the top 8 as the second-ranked team in LaLiga and skipped the round of 16 play-offs. This very circumstance has led Ancelotti to raise his voice about the schedule. It was in his hands to skip the play-off with City.

Barça Has Earned Almost 5 Million More Than Real Madrid in the Champions League

But Real Madrid didn't do it and reached the round of 16 alternating between victories and defeats. Barça, on the other hand, after the defeat in the initial match, chained positive results that led them to second place.

This circumstance is also measured in money, something FC Barcelona needs desperately. It is already the Spanish club that earns the most from TV rights, and now it also leads the Champions League earnings ranking.

Flick's team has earned €54,545,000 during the group stage. One and a half million less than Liverpool and almost 5 million more than Real Madrid.

The Sorpasso

Normally, Real Madrid topped the millionaire rankings in the Champions League. But the sorpasso has occurred. And Barça also looks at others in the rearview mirror in this matter.

All thanks to their results and direct entry into the round of 16 rewarded with 11 million.

The money collection comes from €18.52M for participating. €12.60M for their six victories in the first phase. €700,000 for the draw against Atalanta.

€9.62M for their second place in the ranking, a bonus of €2M for their direct qualification to the round of 16, and €11M for their presence in the round of 16.

But the income that Barça expects doesn't end there. If they reach the quarter-finals by eliminating Benfica, they will add €12.5M more. For the semifinal, an additional €15.00M is paid.

For reaching the final, an additional €18.50M, and for the winner, the final prize of €6.50M is reserved.

That is, Barça can potentially access €42.50M to add to the €54,545,000 already earned. Approaching 100 million, which would be surpassed with the addition of the value pillar, the former market pool, which measures the teams' television audience.
