Rakitic Agrees With Gerard Piqué: His 'Dig' at Lamine Yamal That Everyone Is Talking About

Rakitic reviews his past, talks about his most beloved clubs, and makes statements that haven't gone unnoticed

Iván Rakitic, former FC Barcelona player and living legend of Sevilla, has made headlines again. From Croatia, where he currently resides, he gave an interview on the Radio MARCA program Marcador, leaving several headlines that have sparked discussion.

The midfielder not only reviewed his brilliant career. He also spoke about his love for Sevilla and Barça, and weighed in on a hot topic: Lamine Yamal and his role in the current Barça.

Return to Sevilla?

Rakitic was clear, his bond with Sevilla doesn't break easily. "Hopefully, everyone has my phone number. I don't have ten more years of soccer ahead of me," he said with a laugh.

A phrase that left the door open to a possible return. It wouldn't be surprising to see him in the Sevilla jersey once again. The fans adore him, and he makes it clear: "Everyone knows how much I love both Sevilla Fútbol Club and my city Sevilla."

Nostalgia for the Best Barça

During the conversation, Rakitic recalled his time at FC Barcelona. Especially that magical 2015 when they won the treble under Luis Enrique's orders.

That team had a legendary forward line: Messi, Neymar, and Suárez. A combination difficult to repeat. "I played with the best," he said without hesitation.

The topic of Gerard Piqué came up. The former defender recently stated that in that Barça, Lamine Yamal wouldn't be a starter. A statement that caused a stir.

The 'Gentle Jab' at Lamine

Rakitic was asked about Piqué's words. Without hesitation, he supported his former teammate. "Piqué is right," he stated.

But it wasn't all criticism. The Croatian also had words of admiration for the young Barça talent: "Lamine is unbelievable. I'd put him as a winger, a pivot, anywhere... I love his boldness, his joy."

In other words, he acknowledges Yamal's talent but also puts it in context. In that Barça, the competition was fierce. There was no room for just anyone.

Criticism or Reality?

Social media exploded with his words, some saw it as an attack. Others, as an uncomfortable truth. The reality is that both Piqué and Rakitic know what they're talking about.

It's not disdain. It's a comparison with one of the most dominant teams in soccer history. The message seems clear: Lamine has talent, but he still has a way to go.

However, he made it clear that current soccer is different. Names don't always make history. Time and performance dictate.
