A new episode in the breakup story between Gerard Piqué and RCD Espanyol.
The disagreement goes back a long way. During his time as a footballer, Piqué sent "dialectical" attacks to RCD Espanyol. The white-blue fans sent them back with insults and offensive banners.
The war between the two is not over even though the Barça player has already retired from active sport.
"If We Compare It to Getafe-Espanyol..."
The latest chapter was just played by Piqué with his latest statements on RAC1.
Asked about the drop in ratings for his Kings League invention, Piqué has turned to Espanyol in his reply:
"Currently, the audiences are very, very good. If you compare a Kings League match with Getafe-Espanyol, I assure you that our competition has more viewers," said Piqué.
His Historic Phrases against Espanyol
A statement very much in line with those of the past:
-"I have more money than Espanyol's budget for this year"
-"Espanyol is a team from Cornellà and its owner is Chinese"
-"If they go down to the Second Division, I won't care at all"
-"If they are a wonderful minority, I hope they can fill the field"
Piqué further added on the Kings League audiences: "They are not the same as they were at the beginning. But they are currently very, very good. But many Kings League matches are watched by more people than matches in the Spanish League."
He added: "I'm not talking about a Barça-Madrid match. But if you compare, I don't know, for example, a Getafe-Espanyol match with a Kings League match, our competition has a bigger audience."
This is how Piqué sees the Current Real Madrid and Barça
Piqué also spoke about Real Madrid in the RAC1 interview. "Historically, when they tried to bring together so many stars, the same thing happened," he said.
He issued his statement: "We already know what happens when teams stop being teams and become individuals."
He expressed his surprise about Hansi Flick's Barça: "I thought they would compete, but I didn't expect everything to go so well. I'm glad you can see on the players' faces that they're having a good time."
