Pau Cubarsí can't believe his close friend's words: 'I'll destroy you'

Tension, expectations, and old ties mix in the lead-up to the clash between Barcelona and Chelsea

The upcoming Barcelona-Chelsea match promises strong emotions. The clash will be played at the end of November at Stamford Bridge, on the fifth matchday of the Champions League. It won't be just any match; Chelsea always makes life difficult for its rivals, although the memories for Barça fans in London bring a certain confidence.

A stadium that doesn't forgive

Stamford Bridge is a tough venue. Chelsea has an unpredictable style: when they seem to be having a bad day, the rival believes they can dominate them. However, they usually take advantage of any mistake to strike with force; they're not to be trusted.

Moreover, the history between both clubs adds tension. Barcelona and Chelsea have faced each other on several occasions, and the matches have always been very close. The saga of Fermín López in the transfer market continues to be a talking point, leaving intrigue.

Former Barcelona players on the other team

Chelsea has two former Barça players: Marc Cucurella and Marc Guiu. The latter was in the spotlight before the match after an interview on Tu Diràs on RAC1. The Catalan striker joined Chelsea in 2024, after its release clause of €6 million was paid.

"I don't regret leaving Barça; it was a difficult decision, but I think it was the best for my career. Barça gave me a lot, it was my home, I didn't have a guaranteed spot in the first team, and Maresca trusted me. The project attracted me," Guiu explained.

Regarding his relationship with Barça, he pointed out that he didn't get to speak with Flick: "I only received a few messages during the play-off. I don't know what would've happened if Xavi had stayed, but I prefer to focus on my present."

Preparation and playing style

Guiu praised Chelsea and its coach. "It's the best team in the world right now, every player has quality, and Maresca knows what he's doing. The training sessions are intense and tactical, with a lot of influence from Guardiola: possession, positional play, and teamwork."

Despite the stumble on the first matchday of the Premier League, Chelsea has 7 out of 9 points, just like Barça. The team's unity and tactical discipline are key to its performance. Guiu trusts the group will make the difference at Stamford Bridge.

The friendly threat

The most curious thing was his words to Pau Cubarsí, his friend and fellow Barça player: "I've already told Cuba that I'll destroy him, although I wouldn't celebrate a goal." Words that left Cubarsí somewhere between disbelief and a smile.

For Guiu, this match will be "the match of his life"; he hopes to get minutes and, above all, enjoy the game. The Premier League has given him confidence, and now the Champions League puts him face to face with his past. Stamford Bridge is preparing for an intense clash, with friendships put to the test on the field and guaranteed rivalry.

Barcelona and Chelsea promise spectacle, emotions, and tension. In the midst of it all, Pau Cubarsí will closely follow his friend's jokes, while both teams fight for victory.
