The Joan Gamper Trophy already has its main character. The date is more than set: on August 10, Barça will host Como 1907 at Estadi Johan Cruyff, in a new edition of the great blaugrana celebration. It will be a night filled with reunions, emotions, and names that left their mark at Camp Nou.
A venue with recent memories
Although the Gamper is usually played at Camp Nou, this year it will be held again at Estadi Johan Cruyff, as in 2021. The construction work at the new Camp Nou forces a change of venue, but the spirit will remain the same.
That previous match against Juventus marked a turning point, with the participation of both the men's and women's teams. This time, the stadium will once again be filled with excitement to welcome a team that, although modest, has a very special bond with the club.
A rival with a culé heart
Como 1907 will be the opponent for this edition. It's a historic club that has just returned to Serie A after 21 years away from the elite. The most striking thing is its direct connection with Barça.
The coaching staff includes Cesc Fàbregas, a blaugrana legend and now the main person in charge of the Italian team. On the field, Sergi Roberto, former culé captain, who after 18 years at the club signed for Como in August 2024. Joining them is Àlex Valle, who was trained at La Masia.
This will also be the first match in history between FC Barcelona and Como, both in official competitions and friendlies.
Italy, a regular guest at the Gamper
The relationship between Barça and Italian clubs in the Gamper Trophy is a long one. With Como, there will now be nine Italian teams that have participated in the tournament. In total, Serie A has been present in 14 editions.
Teams like Juventus, Milan, Sampdoria, or Inter have played on the Gamper field. Now, it's Como's turn, coming off a more than remarkable season, finishing in tenth place in Serie A.
A night to get excited
The match against Como will come after Barça's Asian tour, with games against Vissel Kobe in Japan and FC Seoul and Daegu FC in South Korea. It will be the last test before the league debut against Mallorca on August 16.
Beyond the match, the Gamper will be the first opportunity to see Hansi Flick's new Barça at home, with new signings and promising talents. Joan Laporta is clear about it: August 10 is not just any date. It's the day when Barça presents itself to its fans and the day when history continues to be written.
