Ronald Araújo's future is once again at the center of attention at FC Barcelona. Although he renewed his contract until 2031 with a one billion euro clause, a condition in his contract allows him to leave for much less. Joan Laporta knows this and doesn't want to take any risks, so he has asked Deco to act quickly and decisively.
The 65 million window
From July 1 to July 15, Araújo has a special clause: his price drops to just €65 million. Many European clubs consider this amount a bargain for a center-back of his level. Starting on the 16th, that amount rises to €80 million, and it will keep increasing in every transfer window.
It's a kind of "exit door" that could tempt the big clubs, which is why Laporta doesn't want to fall asleep on this. He has asked Deco to close ranks around the player. The message is clear: "Ronald is not for sale," but the Uruguayan's camp knows his situation is not ideal.

Araujo hesitates
Although he has a long contract, Araujo doesn't have a guaranteed starting spot. Pau Cubarsí has established himself as the jewel of the defense. Iñigo Martínez has returned to his best form and although Hansi Flick still trusts the Uruguayan, the outlook is complicated.
Last season was irregular for Ronald, injuries took a toll on him and he only played 25 matches, 13 of them as a starter. He is in shape, yes, but he isn't untouchable. In addition, Barça has other options in defense, such as Eric García and Christensen, which increases the competition.
Sell or resist?
The dilemma for the club is deep; on one hand, selling Araújo would help ease the finances. With Joan García (€25M) already signed, the financial margin is minimal. Although Barça returns to the 1:1 rule, a big sale is still needed.
In January, the club was asking for €80 million, today, they would accept 70. Bayern Munich came close in 2024, while Juventus and Manchester United could make a move again. However, his current market value has dropped: €35 million according to specialized portals.
This is why Laporta wants Deco to make a move. Not only to calm potential buyers, but also to convince the player to stay. If there isn't a firm stance from the club, some team could take advantage of this €65 million window and take him away without much effort.
What will Deco do?
The sporting director has the mission to stop the tide. He has said that "Ronald is not for sale", but now he must prove it with actions. Laporta has asked him not to let this get out of hand.
Because if Barça doesn't act now, it could lose one of its leaders... for much less than he's worth.
