New top-level teammate for Pau Cubarsí: Deco prepares €60M, from the Premier League to Barça

FC Barcelona finds the ideal partner for Pau Cubarsí in the center of defense: Ronald Araújo out

Until recently, it seemed that the main goal for FC Barcelona in 2026 was to strengthen the '9' position with a major star... but the reality is that Deco also has ambitious plans for the defense. It has become clear that a left-footed player is needed to allow Pau Cubarsí to play in his favorite position, and the idea is to bring him in next summer.

Due to Iñigo Martínez's departure, Cubarsí has had to move to the left side of the center of defense. Clearly, that's where he shows a lower level of performance, something Barça wants to avoid. The reality is that Araújo still hasn't convinced as a starter and Flick has clearly indicated that this problem needs to be solved as soon as possible and whenever possible.

A goal in the Premier League

In the last few hours, "CaughtOffside" has revealed Barça's interest in a Premier League center-back. Specifically, they really like and are closely monitoring Murillo, Nottingham Forest's defender.

He is one of the best defenders in all of England and has top-level experience despite being only 23 years old. Not only is Barça following him, but Arsenal are also keeping an eye on a possible move.

Murillo is clear that he wants to take a step forward in his career over the next few years and would be interested in leaving. In this regard, Nottingham value him at about €60 million... a price that would fit within Barça's search parameters.

Murillo, total growth

A left-footed center-back with great potential, Murillo has attracted attention for his defensive security, reading of the game, and ability to dominate in the air. His versatility allows him to adapt to both three- and four-defender systems, which increases his value for a club looking to strengthen its defensive line.

At Spotify Camp Nou, they believe that Murillo could form an ideal partnership with Pau Cubarsí, combining youth, physicality, and technique. Cubarsí brings speed and ball distribution, while Murillo complements with strength, anticipation, and leadership on the left side of the defense. His left-footedness is highly valued, as it allows the play to open up from the back and balances the blaugrana backline.

In addition, his experience in the Premier League, where he has had to face very powerful and physical forwards, has given him a competitive character and an adaptability that would allow him to quickly integrate into LaLiga

Barça are following him closely, aware that Murillo not only brings immediate quality, but also medium- and long-term potential.  His arrival could consolidate the team's defensive core, offering balance, security, and a solid foundation for the growth of the first team's young talents

At only 23 years old, Murillo stands out as one of Barça's major defensive bets for the near future.
