Neither Galatasaray nor Inter! Ter Stegen Has a Team for 2026: 'I'll Play for...'

After the meeting with Hansi Flick, FC Barcelona's captain has already chosen where he will play next season

The situation of Marc-André ter Stegen at FC Barcelona is far from simple. The captain, at 33 years old and after a serious injury, is aware that Hansi Flick doesn't count on him. In a recent meeting held at Ciutat Esportiva, the German coach has already confirmed to him face to face that he doesn't count on him for next season.

"You are my third option, Marc," were the words Hansi Flick conveyed to his compatriot. He has by no means opened the door for him to leave, but he has made it very clear that he is his last priority. He has Joan García and Szczesny ahead of him, who will be his goalkeepers throughout the next campaign.

Ter Stegen has his decision clear

After this desired meeting, Ter Stegen is more certain than ever that he will continue at Barça. Although Hansi Flick has told him that he will be the third goalkeeper, at no time has he told him to leave. The German believes he is capable of fighting for the starting spot in training, trying to become important again at FC Barcelona.

His goal is to reach the 2026 World Cup as Germany's starting goalkeeper. He believes he can do it if he stays at Barça. Despite his decision, he has not taken well the way the club has handled things. He is the captain and found out through the press that they want to show him the door. His relationship with Hansi Flick is another matter; he respects him and believes he can convince him.

The only condition to leave

The captain is clear that he will stay at FC Barcelona, but if they want to kick him out, he is only willing to leave if they pay him all the money he is owed in the 3 years remaining on his contract.

On the table, Barça would only be willing to offer him the salary for one of those years. That is not enough for Ter Stegen, who doesn't intend to forgive a single cent.

Barça has made it clear that it would be willing to listen to offers for Ter Stegen this summer. However, the German has already rejected proposals from clubs such as Galatasaray or Inter Milan, reaffirming his desire to continue at Camp Nou. With a valid contract and a very important role in the squad, Ter Stegen's future will depend on the evolution of the market... and on his own decision.
