Neither Galatasaray nor Espanyol, Iñaki Peña chooses his next team: 'I'll play for...'

The youth academy product will leave Barcelona after receiving an offer that has caught his attention

FC Barcelona keeps working on planning its squad for next season, which also includes the well-known "exit operation." There are several open fronts in Camp Nou offices, among which is the case of Iñaki Peña. His contract ends in 2026 and he knows firsthand that he is not in the coach's plans, so he must find a new destination for the following campaign.

Iñaki Peña has a plan

At this moment, Peña has several options on the table. In recent days, the possibilities of Galatasaray and Espanyol have been strongly rumored, although it seems that his plans involve looking for another team.

In addition to these possibilities, along with the well-known interest from Celta, a new option must now be added. "SPORT" has revealed that Betis has shown interest in signing Barça's goalkeeper, planning a complete restructuring of its goalkeeping position.

In this regard, Iñaki Peña is seriously considering the proposal to play for Betis. The Andalusian side has just signed Álvaro Valles, who arrives with the theoretical status of starter. Peña's arrival would increase competition between the posts, with both having the chance to convince Pellegrini.

Revolution in the goal

FC Barcelona's goal is experiencing a moment of deep change. After years with Marc-André ter Stegen as the undisputed starter, the club has decided to make a move this summer. Joan García, a young goalkeeper from Cornellà, has been chosen to lead a new era between the posts at Camp Nou. At 24 years old, with great potential, he is expected to be the starter from day one.

Joan's arrival has created uncertainty about Ter Stegen's future. The German, the team's captain, doesn't have his continuity guaranteed and his role in the squad is hanging in the air. At 33 years old, he could look for a way out if he is not guaranteed a leading role. Meanwhile, Iñaki Peña will leave this summer (now aiming for Betis) in search of playing time, after failing to convince as a reliable alternative.

As for the second goalkeeper, Barça already has an agreement in place for the renewal of Wojciech Szczesny, who will serve as a reliable backup thanks to his experience and solidity. In addition, the young Diego Kochen will make the definitive leap to the first team as the third goalkeeper, combining matches with the reserve team.
