Women's soccer can't be happy if it doesn't enter into conflict. The surprising thing is that fires are started by coaches; in this case, Montse Tomé.
His predecessor, Jorge Vilda, who was Tomé's assistant, had already caused great chaos by getting 15 of the best Spanish players to exclude themselves from the national team.
Mapi León Keeps Rejecting the National Team
That was just a couple of years ago. Vilda had turned them all against each other. Little by little, they all came back, although with many reservations.
However, one of them still agree with Montse Tomé. This is the case of Mapi León. She is probably the best center-back in the world, from whom Spain can't benefit because she doesn't like what she sees in the Federation.
Others, like Claudia Pina, were punished but ended up returning. It couldn't have been otherwise after the thrashing that Barça gave Real Madrid at home last Sunday.
Even so, with the wounds still open, the coach has poured fuel on the fire. In her latest draft she left out Jenny Hermoso and Irene Paredes.
In the case of the latter, it can't be due to technical reasons. After all, she managed to disable the entire Real Madrid forward line last Clásico.
It was a classic in which Barça confirmed that the gaps haven't shortened, even if it looks that way for the national team. This time, 4 for Real Madrid and 8 for Barça.
That is not the distance that separates Barça from Real Madrid and everyone else.
In other matches, the difference was smaller: 6 to 8. However, this time the attempt to equalize the two teams wouldn't have been sustainable in any way.
Montse Tomé's list hasn't pleased anyone and she is blamed for the absence of Jenni and Paredes. Bero Boquete speaks of a "déjà vu" because the same thing happened to her with Vilda.
Swiss international Ana Crnogorčević, Irene Paredes's former teammate at Barça, takes aim at the coach:
“Being a starter at the best club… It must be out of performance, right? (I'm asking for a friend).”
Crnogorčević knows that, alongside Mapi León, Paredes is not going to the national team because she made a mistake in the Olympic semi-finals against Brazil. The coach hasn't forgive her for it, even though she is still the best, by far, in her position.
