He's more out than in: his outstanding performance in the Gamper pushes him out of Barça

Laporta won't be able to say no if Chelsea or Manchester United confirm their €80 million offer for him

Expectations at the Joan Gamper Trophy were at their highest, not just because it was Barça's official presentation to its fans. Among the names drawing the most attention was Fermín López, one of the young talents who has managed to earn Hansi Flick's trust.

What few could have imagined is that his performance against Como would end up having a very different interpretation than the desired one.

The midfielder from Córdoba scored two truly spectacular goals that brought the crowd to its feet and confirmed, once again, that he has exceptional talent.

However, what should guarantee his continuity reinforces an idea circulating in the offices at Camp Nou: it's time to sell.

The price is set: 80 million

According to internal club sources consulted by MB, Joan Laporta has set Fermín's starting price at 80 million euros.

Until the Gamper, the offers hesitated. Now, after his outstanding performance, Chelsea and Manchester United have made it clear they're willing to make a financial effort to sign him.

The figure is no coincidence. That amount would allow Barça to comply with LaLiga's strict salary cap.

It would also give some relief to the financial "fair play," which prevents the club from registering players and strengthening the squad.

In other words, selling Fermín would immediately solve a structural problem.

Atlético offered 30+10M€ for Fermín

Hansi Flick has repeated on several occasions that he counts on Fermín, and much of the Barça fanbase thinks the same. Everyone sees him as a midfielder with grit, attacking ability, and a knack for scoring.

However, in modern soccer, the balance between performance and finances prevails. In this case, the need to sell seems to outweigh any sporting argument.

Losing a homegrown player always hurts, especially when he hasn't reached his ceiling yet.

But the club's finances don't lie. If a formal offer for those 80 million arrives, everything points to Fermín packing his bags for England.

Atlético de Madrid was also interested in him, but its offer didn't go beyond 30 million plus 10 in add-ons.

A strategic operation

Within the board of directors, there's a sense that the deal could be closed quickly. Chelsea and Manchester United, two clubs with financial muscle and a need to strengthen their midfield, share the interest. Laporta's position is clear, there will be no discounts.

What would be a painful loss for Flick and Barça fans is a golden opportunity for the club's leadership. Fermín has earned a place in the starting eleven... and in the market.
