Luis Enrique and Chelsea are fighting over him, and Laporta raises his price: €80M

He isn't the player Flick would like to sell, but Araújo and Ter Stegen are not making it easy

In Barcelona's offices, the numbers don't add up. The initial plan was clear: sell Ronald Araújo for a high fee after lowering his release clause.

But no offers have arrived for the Uruguayan center-back. He doesn't want to leave the club either, even knowing Flick doesn't consider him untouchable.

Emotions are subordinated to millions at Barça

Another one who isn't making an exit easy is Marc-André ter Stegen, whose salary and age make any serious move in the market difficult. Without strong income, Laporta is forced to look elsewhere.

That "elsewhere" is called Fermín López. One of the biggest revelations of the last two seasons. Homegrown, young, with potential, talent, and offers.

Many offers. All of them have money. Laporta doesn't want to sell him and Flick doesn't either.

But in a Barça so conditioned by the economy, emotions are subordinated to millions. Fermín is more out than in if a good offer comes in.

Luis Enrique wants him in Paris

One of the first to make a move has been Luis Enrique, PSG's successful coach. The Asturian has been watching Fermín's development for some time and believes he would fit perfectly into the new Parisian project, more focused on young players and less on fading stars.

According to the Catalan press, there was already a first contact and Barça have set the price: 80 million euros, not a euro less.

In Paris, they're not scared by those figures, although the move depends on other prior operations. Luis Enrique wants him to strengthen the midfield with attacking ability, verticality, and boldness, just the way he likes it.

Fermín is highly regarded at Parc des Princes. There, they see him as the new Verratti.

Chelsea prepare the bomb

PSG isn't the only club that has him on its radar. In England, Enzo Maresca's Chelsea are also on the lookout. The Londoners, specialists in big-money signings, are looking to make a splash with a player who combines youth and immediate performance.

Fermín fits that profile exactly. Barça know that if Chelsea make a serious approach, they'll pay whatever it takes.

The English club's reports are excellent. They believe he can have a similar impact to Jude Bellingham in the Premier League in terms of style and character. They don't rule out reaching the 80 million euros Barça are asking for, especially if they manage to trim the squad in the coming weeks.

He's not the one Flick wanted to sell

In Flick's plans, Fermín was a key piece for the new Barça. A homegrown player, committed, and with guaranteed growth. But the club's financial reality has prevailed again.

Araújo isn't leaving. Ter Stegen isn't either. Fermín's 80 million euros could save the transfer window.

Laporta knows it's an unpopular decision. He also knows that if the right offer comes in, it'll be impossible to say no.

Barça need liquidity. Fermín, unintentionally, has become the most profitable solution.
