Laporta Already Has Money to Sign Isak: €100M Guaranteed. And €45M More Could Arrive

Flick's Barça's sporting successes translate into cold, hard cash

FC Barcelona's performance in the Champions League is proving to be a goldmine for the club's depleted coffers under the presidency of Joan Laporta.

Benfica's elimination in the round of 16 has brought the blaugrana club an income of 12.5 million. So far in the tournament, Flick's team has already accumulated 101.5 million euros.

They Could Be 45 Million More

There could still be more. 45 million await Barça if they win the title and the subsequent UEFA Super Cup.

Once qualified for the quarterfinals of the Champions League for the second consecutive season after eliminating Benfica, FC Barcelona secures an additional 12.5 million euros for reaching this round as an economic prize awarded by UEFA. With a bounty so far this season of 101.563, it already surpasses the 100 million mark, waiting to improve the figure if they reach the semifinals and the final in Munich (May 31). This way, the blaugrana club fulfills what it had planned from the European Cup in the billing budget for the 2024-25 season, following its financial policy, which traditionally includes reaching the quarterfinals of the top continental competition and the semifinals of the Copa del Rey, a tournament in which it has also done its homework, waiting to see if it eliminates Atlético and reaches the final in Seville (April 26) against Real Madrid or Real Sociedad. With the new Champions League format, UEFA improved the compensation for clubs to the point that the ticket to the quarterfinals has increased this season from 10.6 million to 12.5. If they eliminate Borussia Dortmund or Lille in the next phase, Barça will receive 15 million more for being in the semifinals (it was 12.5 in the last edition), which would mean profits in addition to a substantial revenue against Bayern or Inter Milan. The pass to the final increases this season from 15.5 to 18.5, while the champion will pocket an additional 6.5 million (4.5 in 2023-24) and will also have another four guaranteed for their participation in the European Super Cup in Udine (August 13) against the Europa League winner. The 101.563 million already achieved by Barça under Flick in this Champions League are distributed as follows. Like the rest of the 36 participants in the league phase, they received 18.62 at the start. The good sports performance (finished second with 19 points) rewarded them with 2.1 for each of the six victories and 0.7 for a draw. To this, 665,000 euros of the leftover global money from the draws not awarded to the winners of the matches must be added. Finishing among the top eight allowed them to earn 2 million more, while access to the round of 16 meant 11 million. Now, 12.5 more fall for the passport to the quarterfinals. To all this, the new concept of the 'value pillar' must be added, which integrates the traditional 'market pool' (sponsors and TV rights plus domestic and continental results of the last five years) with the historical ranking in the euro tournaments of the last decade. For the first concept, Barça already has 22.44 million that can increase depending on what they do in the rest of this edition as well as the other participating Spanish clubs (Real Madrid and Atlético). As for the so-called '10 year coefficients,' they started this Champions with a fixed of 11.41 million, only surpassed by Madrid (12.45), Bayern (12.10), and Manchester City (11.76). Barça's income, broken down Fixed for playing the 'league phase': 18.62 million For 6 victories (2.1 M) and a draw (0.7): 13.3 Money to distribute leftover from the draws: 0.665 For finishing in 2nd place: 9.625 For finishing among the top 16: 2 For qualifying for the round of 16: 11 For qualifying for the quarterfinals: 12.5 Market pool (sponsors and TV rights): 22.44* 10-year historical coefficient: 11.41 TOTAL: 101.56 million WHAT THEY CAN STILL EARN For qualifying for the semifinals: 15 For playing the final: 18.5 For winning the final: 6.5 For playing the Super Cup: 4 (1 more for winning it) (*) Provisional | Getty Images

If Barça surpasses the winner of Dortmund-Lille in the quarterfinals, they will add 15 million more. If they reach the final by defeating Bayern or Inter, it would be another 18.5 million. In case of a final victory, another 6.5 million.

To these figures, 4 million for playing the Super Cup plus an additional million for winning it should be added.

These are potential figures, but the 101.5 million are real. They already belong to Barça, which can also improve its income through the Value Pillar. This is a benchmark based on sponsors, TV rights, and results in La Liga and Champions League over the last five years.

There Will Be Money to Sign Isak

These amounts, combined with the ticket sales to come, allow Barça some relief in its economic situation. It will allow Joan Laporta, leveraging the 1:1, to sign a top footballer next summer market.

The focus is on Isak, the Swedish forward from Newcastle who years ago made a very good impression at Real Sociedad. 100M would be his price. The club would try to match it with sales of a similar level.

Offers have already arrived at the club's offices for several players, some of whom are transferable because they have not yet reached the status of starters in Flick's team.
