Jules Koundé's situation can't be reversed, he's already signed: 'I'll play for...'

Koundé's future has already been decided and Barça strengthens its commitment to building a solid, long-term defense

For weeks, Jules Koundé's future was hanging in the air. The French defender, one of Barça's pillars, raised doubts about whether he would stay at the club.

But one thing was clear: Hansi Flick fully trusts him. For the German coach, Koundé is a key piece, an irreplaceable player in the team's scheme.

In a context where renewing big names is complicated due to the club's financial situation, Koundé's continuity was a priority. The club knows this, which is why it hasn't let more time pass.

Renewal confirmed: contract until 2030

Finally, Barça has given the green light to Jules Koundé's contract extension. The French international signed to stay at the club until June 2030, extending his original contract by three years, which was set to end in 2027.

The club showed a clear interest in securing his long-term future. Not only because of his quality, but also because of his age and potential: Koundé is 26 and will turn 27 in November. This makes him one of the best right-backs in the world and a safe bet for the coming years.

In addition, the release clause remains extremely high, at €1 billion, a sign that Barça wants to shield him at all costs.

Salary adjustments and current situation

With the renewal, there will also be salary adjustments. Currently, Koundé earns about €13 million gross per year. The extension includes an increase that could bring his salary close to €16 million starting from the 25/26 season.

However, all this is subject to the regulations and salary cap set by LaLiga. Barça can't register Rashford or Bardghji, but Koundé will play from the first matchday because his registration is complete.

An indispensable player for Flick and for Barça

Since he arrived in Catalonia in July 2022, coming from Sevilla for €50 million, Koundé has earned everyone's respect and admiration. His versatility to play both as a center-back and as a right-back has been vital. Since the end of 2023, he has clearly established himself on the right flank, forming a great connection with Lamine Yamal.

His numbers prove his importance: 141 official matches with Barça, 7 goals, and 18 assists. In the last season, before his injury in the Champions League semifinals, he was the player with the most minutes: 4,423 (4.4 km) in 53 matches.

In addition, he was the defender with the most goal involvements, with 12 assists and combined goals.
