FC Barcelona is smiling again in the UEFA Champions League. After years of frustration, the team led by Hansi Flick has begun to leave behind the shadows of previous seasons, showing a solid and competitive version in the group stage. Qualification for the next round seems assured, bringing with it a considerable windfall of millions to strengthen the club coffers.
The Resurgence in Europe
This year, Barcelona has proven to be up to the expectations in the Champions League. After an initial defeat against Monaco, the team has bounced back strongly, securing five consecutive victories.
The "culés" have overwhelmed teams like Young Boys (5-0), Bayern Munich (4-1), and Borussia Dortmund (2-3). With 15 points, the team almost guarantees its passage to the round of 16, although it could fall to play-offs if it doesn't win the last two matches.
Flood of Millions
Barcelona's performance in the Champions is bearing economic fruits. To date, the club has already secured 30.12 million euros for its participation and victories.
Out of this amount, 18.62 million belong to participation, while 10.5 million have been earned thanks to the victories obtained. Additionally, an extra million was added for qualifying for play-offs.
If Barcelona manages to keep its position in the group stage and qualifes directly for the round of 16, the figure will increase. Qualification for this phase would mean an additional 11 million and a possible first place in the group would bring an extra 9.6 million. Thus, the total haul could reach 50.72 million euros, including performance bonuses and the ranking at the end of the group stage.
More Income fom Moving Forward in the Competition
The Champions League not only rewards the group stage but also advancing toward the final rounds. If Barcelona moves to quarter-finals, it would pocket an additional 12.5 million euros.
If it reaches semi-finals, the figure would rise to 15 million and, if it makes it to the final, it would receive another 18.5 million. Moreover, if the team manages to win the title, it would take home another 6.5 million.
To all this, the income from UEFA's "market pool" is added, which distributes money according to television rights and the historic performance of each club. In this section, Barcelona currently occupies the fifth position, guaranteeing a significant share of this economic distribution.
