Joan Laporta activates Julián Álvarez's signing. all the details: price and salary

FC Barcelona already knows the conditions Julián Álvarez sets to leave Atlético de Madrid in 2026

There have been many rumors this summer, but in the end  Barça hasn't made the famous "big operation" it had in mind to strengthen the squad. It's been an austere transfer window, spending €27 million ($27 million) on three top-level signings, which will help raise the team's competitive level. Joan Laporta has saved money, and he has done so with a clear goal: everything will go toward the "9" he wants in 2026.

Goodbye to Lewandowski

The idea Barça has is that Robert Lewandowski, its starting striker, will leave next season. His contract ends on June 30, 2026, and there is no intention to renew it. With his departure on a free transfer, one of the three highest salaries in the entire squad will leave. This will be useful when it comes to strengthening the team, getting rid of a significant part of the wage bill.

FC Barcelona doesn't want to fail and  will go after one of the best "9s" in Europe: Julián Álvarez. He is the chosen one and there would already be a green light to carry out this complicated operation. The Argentine wants to follow in his idol Leo Messi's footsteps and play at Spotify Camp Nou. He would be delighted.

Julián Álvarez, the chosen one

There have been talks with Julián Álvarez's inner circle, who has already conveyed his conditions to play for Barça. First of all, he wants to be an undisputed starter and take Lewandowski's "9", something Joan Laporta has gladly accepted.

Regarding his salary, he has stated that he wants to earn more than at Atlético. There, he is pocketing about €7 million ($7 million) net per season. Meanwhile, to move to Barcelona, he is asking for at least €10 million ($10 million) net per season spent in the Catalan capital.

These conditions fit into the plans of a Barça that, with what it saves from Lewandowski, will be able to dedicate it to the chosen "9".

However, the big problem will be the price to pay. Atlético doesn't want to part with its star and is asking for about €150 million ($150 million) for him, intending to make him the biggest sale in its history.

What Barça would like to do is try to  include a player in the negotiations for Julián Álvarez. It won't be easy, but Joan Laporta has identified him as the top target for 2026. There is still time ahead, but the conditions are already on the table.
