Robert Lewandowski signed for three years with FC Barcelona and is now in his third season.
In the contract signed in the summer of 2023, it was specified that the contract would be automatically renewed for one more season. For this, it was necessary that in his third season, the current one, he should have a leading role by playing more than half of Barça's official matches.
The Highest Paid in the Squad: 32 Million Euros
That's what has happened. The contract has grown year by year to total the 52 million net stipulated in 2022 until the end of 2026.
For the first year, 20 million gross were signed. In the second, the figure rose to 26 million. Meanwhile, in the third, the current one, it reached its maximum: 32 million euros.
For the fourth year, everything was based on the performance of the third year. He had to play 55% of the minutes, as a starter or substitute, but adding up to a minimum of 45 minutes. In that case, he would renew for a final year and the salary would then be 26 million euros.
Frenkie De Jong Will Earn More Than Him
The 35 goals he has scored this season confirm his prominence in the team and allow him to access the reward of the fourth year of the contract.
But next season he will no longer be the highest-paid player in the squad. The honor will go to Frenkie De Jong.
In any case, for Lewandowski the next will be his last season as an active footballer. He will already be 37 years old and will reach that moment in a different role than the current one, alternating more minutes on the bench.
Barça is preparing for the moment and is looking in the market for a reliable replacement, although Ferran Torres is showing that he is capable of replacing the Pole when the situation requires it. It was seen in the last match at the Metropolitano.
But Lewandowski's prominence will decrease next season and, although he will remain important, he will no longer be indispensable in Flick's plans. In fact, the coach and the player have already agreed on the situation for the next season.
