It's official for Salma Paralluelo: unexpected news at Barça, there's someone to blame

Barcelona Femení make a surprising decision regarding Salma Paralluelo's future after a challenging season

Salma Paralluelo arrived at Barça during the summer of 2022, having rejected multiple offers and also deciding to definitively leave athletics, where she had stood out so much. She broke out very quickly, being key to winning the treble with Barcelona and the World Cup with Spain. In fact, she finished third in the 2023 edition of the Ballon d'Or, only behind Aitana and Kerr.

However, she hasn't managed to increase (or even keep) that high level she already showed three years ago. Due to physical problems and her difficulties scoring goals, Salma Paralluelo has been falling behind at Barça. In fact, this past summer there were even rumors about her departure: her contract ends in 2026 and, as of today, it's not at all clear that she's going to renew her short-term deal.

Recovered from her physical problems and trying to get back to her best version, it seems that Pere Romeu has ambitious plans for the Aragonese player. Although she has always played across the attacking front, Barcelona's coach is preparing a complete change of plans for the 21-year-old footballer.

Position change for Salma Paralluelo

In the last few hours, "LaTdG" has revealed that at Barça there are plans to change Salma's position. The idea is to move her to the defensive area, trying to take advantage of her great physical qualities on the wing. There's a need for a wing-back and Pere Romeu's idea is to give her minutes in that position, as a substitute for Esmee Brugts.

Initially, the culer team had no intention of strengthening the left defensive wing, but everything has changed. At the beginning of the summer, they decided to reach an agreement for the termination of Fridolina Rolfö, whose performance has been declining year after year. The idea was for Brugts and the youth player  Lucía Corrales to compete for the position.

A culprit

However,  what nobody expected at Women's Barça is that Lucía Corrales would end up leaving. With one year left on her contract and with the theoretical intention of staying, she has packed her bags for England.

London City Lionesses, which is part of the group that also owns Lyon, has paid her release clause. They've made her the most expensive Spanish player in history, paying  €550,000  into Barcelona's coffers. This amount has been very well received despite the unexpected nature of her departure.

Thus, since she's a footballer who shines more when she has space, the idea now is to try Salma Paralluelo as a wing-back. She'll have space starting from the back, being able to take advantage of her great physical qualities that made her stand out in national athletics.
