Iñaki Peña Met Hansi Flick and He Already Knows His New Reality: ‘You Have to…’

Everything has changed for the youth player in recent weeks: from an undisputed starter to Szczęsny's substitute.

Iñaki Peña's situation has completely changed at Barça in recent weeks. Hansi Flick has been clear and forceful in his latest public appearances, confirming that now "the number one" is Szczęsny. He Is in all competitions: League, Champions, and Cup, having completely removed the youth player from the equation, who is sad and angry.

Considering that everything has changed for him, Iñaki Peña wanted to have a face-to-face meeting directly with Hansi Flick. SPORT has been forceful about it, indicating that this "didn't end with the best possible feelings" for either of the two involved. In this regard, the Alicante native left the meeting believing that "it would be more complicated" to regain his place at Barça.

What Iñaki Peña wanted was to know firsthand the reasons that led Hansi Flick to make the drastic change in goal. What the Barça coach mentioned was his delay in the pre-match talk for the Spanish Super Cup against Athletic Club. Something that didn't seem to be a sufficient reason for the goalkeeper.

In this regard, there wasn't much to talk about. Hansi Flick was forceful with Iñaki Peña, urging him to accept his new reality. The Barça goalkeeper didn't leave happy, departing with "a bitter aftertaste" and the feeling that it would be very difficult to regain his place.

What Iñaki Peña is now considering is his future at Barça. His contract ends in 2026, and he knows that with Hansi Flick, he doesn't have a place in the squad. He is frankly disappointed, doesn't understand the reasons, and believes that the coach has been unfair to him, using an excuse to "set him aside."

Unless there is a radical turn of events, everything seems to indicate that Iñaki Peña will leave Barça permanently next summer. He wants to feel important and knows that with Hansi Flick, it's impossible.

The most likely scenario today at FC Barcelona involves the departure of the Alicante goalkeeper and the renewal of Wojciech Szczęsny for one more year. The Pole is happy and feels good after coming out of retirement. For the next season, he would accept a secondary role behind Ter Stegen, and another as a direct mentor to the young Diego Kochen.
