FC Barcelona continues to plan the squad for next season and, in recent days, has received a surprising proposal. Chelsea is trying to carry out a swap deal to acquire a blaugrana star: Fermín López. Recently, El Chiringuito revealed that the Blues had offered €70 million ($70 million) for the Andalusian, while now, Mundo Deportivo has put an unexpected option on the table.
Fermín López for Nkunku: Chelsea's surprise swap deal
Fermín has amazed across Europe over the past two seasons and his performance hasn't gone unnoticed by anyone. Maresca, Chelsea's coach and a great admirer of the Andalusian, has personally requested his signing. The London club has acted quickly to try to secure his arrival, offering a straight swap for Christopher Nkunku, a 27-year-old forward who hasn't managed to stand out at Stamford Bridge.
In 2023, Chelsea signed Nkunku from Leipzig for €60 million ($60 million) and has now offered him to Barça. This season, he has recorded 14 goals and 5 assists in 42 matches. These numbers and his performance haven't convinced at Camp Nou, leading them to reject this swap.

Hansi Flick counts on Fermín
In this regard, Barça's response has been discussed with their coach, Hansi Flick. The German fully trusts the player from El Campillo and has no intention of letting him go. He also hasn't been convinced by the footballer offered in exchange. While it's true that Christopher Nkunku is a good player, he believes his playing style doesn't fit, nor does he have the same value as Fermín.
That said, there's only one way for Fermín López to end up leaving Barça. As Mundo Deportivo has pointed out, from Camp Nou, they'll only consider offers if he requests it. The trust in the 22-year-old is absolute and his presence in the squad for next season is assured.

A few months ago, Fermín renewed his contract with Barça until 2029. While it's true that there's a lot of competition in his position, he's still willing to fight and his departure is highly unlikely. This past season, as an attacking midfielder, he has recorded 8 goals and 10 assists in 46 matches. Hansi Flick believes he fits the team, is happy with him, and no one is considering his departure.
