Great news! Andreas Christensen didn't see it coming, Deco speaks clearly: 'We want...'

Íñigo Martínez's departure to Saudi Arabia has completely changed Barça's sports planning

No one expected how completely Andreas Christensen's situation has changed. With his contract ending in 2026 and an overcrowded center-back position, the Dane was on the market to leave. He arrived on a free transfer and the club wanted to take advantage of the situation to get a figure of about €10 million for his sale. But  Iñigo Martínez's departure to Saudi Arabia has given his status a U-turn.

Renewal with Barça

"SPORT" has revealed that  the sporting management led by Deco intends to offer him a contract renewal with FC Barcelona. With his contract ending in 2026, the idea is for Christensen to extend it for one more year, preventing him from leaving next summer as a free agent.

In this regard, the intention is that  negotiations for his continuity at Barça will begin once the transfer "mercatto" ends during this month of August.

What Andreas Christensen has always wanted is to continue at Barcelona, having rejected multiple offers from both Spain and abroad. No scenario is completely ruled out, and his possible renewal is gaining a lot of momentum. The idea is for him to play a lot this season under Hansi Flick, with the possibility of fighting to return to the starting eleven.

Defensive reliability

Andreas Christensen is facing his fourth season at FC Barcelona with the ambition to regain prominence. At 29 years old, the Danish center-back brings experience, game reading, and a defensive reliability that the club has always valued. However, in Hansi Flick's first season as Barça's coach, injuries prevented him from having continuity and he was barely able to show his best level.

Now, with preseason in full swing, Christensen  is fully included in the German coach's plans. Flick trusts that his experience and ability to lead from the back will be a key asset in a squad with a lot of young talent. His composure when playing out from the back, good positioning, and strength in duels make him a very necessary profile to face a long and demanding season.

In Barcelona, they know that  if Christensen keeps his physical consistency, he can form a partnership with Pau Cubarsí or even be the leader of a defense that needs stability. In addition, his versatility to play in a three-center-back line or as a pair makes him even more valuable.

The 2025/26 season will be key for the Dane to prove that he can still be an essential piece at Camp Nou. Andreas Christensen is  ready to take charge again of the blaugrana backline.
