During the general meeting of Real Madrid members held yesterday, Florentino Pérez remembered Barça.
Actually, he was just stating the obvious: Real Madrid and FC Barcelona must work together to face future challenges that concern them both.
Florentino Needs Barça in the Super League
The support of FC Barcelona for his Super League project was originally expected by the president of theclub. Such support was given at the beginning but has been waning over time.
The deterioration in relationship between both clubs following the Negreira affair has distanced FC Barcelona from the Super League project. Now Florentino needs Barça on board.
The traditional good relationship between two "sworn enemies" was broken when Florentino Pérez decided to present Real Madrid as a private prosecutor in the Negreira case as an affected party.
At Camp Nou they felt betrayed by the president of Real Madrid and respnded accordingly.
The Slaughter Case as a Reply to the Negreira Case
Barça has presented itself as an affected party in the case of fake passports that links Real Madrid with the player Marcus Slaughter.
The Catalonian club is demanding that Real Madrid must forfeit the eight titles it fraudulently won due to the player's improper lineup.
With this double declaration of intent from both clubs, affairs were broken. Florentino stopped going to Barcelona with his team and meals between directors were eliminated.
Now Florentino Pérez is asking for a truce to cover one of his fronts, the Super League, seeking the support of Barcelona.
Laporta urgently needed the Super League, but he's been losing interest as time went by and Barça no longer could benefit from it .
Now Barça is more out of the project than in. In fact, its latest rumors with UEFA suggest it has changed sides.
Florentino Pérez's Words at the Assembly
At the Real Madrid assembly held on Sunday, Florentino Pérez returned to the subject of his relationship with Barça.
"Barça and Madrid have to help each other, I say this with complete sincerity. We have to remember that it is a club that is among the biggest in the world. Why would we get angry?" he said.
Joan Laporta is clear about it. If Florentino Pérez wants Barça's help, the first thing he has to do is withdraw his belligerent position in the Negreira case. Only then will FC Barcelona agree to negotiate anything that could benefit Real Madrid.
Florentino Pérez is aware of Laporta's plans.
