Deco Steps Up and Finds a Team for Ter Stegen: ‘He’ll Play for…’

A powerful Champions League team is considering Ter Stegen to strengthen its goal for next season

FC Barcelona still have a lot of work to do at the very start of preseason. The squad, although it has undergone changes, is still not fully defined and some important moves are still missing. We're not just talking about signings, but also departures that could help lighten the wage bill and allow for other moves. Specifically, the one highlighted in red on Deco's agenda is Ter Stegen's, who may already have a new team.

Possible departure from Barça

Although Ter Stegen, as of today, would choose to stay in Barcelona, he knows that his situation is far from simple. He has personally discussed it with Hansi Flick and feels motivated to continue, although offers keep coming in. The latest has come from Monaco, which is keeping a close eye on his situation with the intention of strengthening its goalkeeping position.

At 33 years old, the German goalkeeper is facing the final stretch of his career with a contract valid until 2028 and one of the highest salaries in the entire squad. However, his status as an undisputed starter between the posts is completely gone.

With the arrival of Joan García, combined with his latest injury, it seems that Ter Stegen is more out than in. His high salary also affects sports planning, in an economic context that requires cutting expenses. Although his experience and leadership in the locker room are indisputable, Barça know that sooner rather than later they already have his replacement signed.

Having lost his starting spot to Joan, and with offers available such as Monaco's, he now has to decide. For now, he's still defending the badge, but time is ticking and injuries have left a mark that could speed up his departure from Barça. Deco has everything ready in case he decides to leave...
