Dani Olmo and Barça's problem: they threaten to remove him from the roster if everything isn't solved

Dani Olmo is going through a period of uncertainty about his future with the team while key issues are being solved

FC Barcelona continues to deal with its player registration issues. Although the club managed to register Joan García and Marcus Rashford, there are still pending matters that directly affect Dani Olmo. The Spanish attacking midfielder was registered in January thanks to a resolution from the Higher Sports Council (CSD), but his situation remains delicate.

Olmo's registration and the "cautelarísima"

Dani Olmo played the first two matches of LaLiga 25/26 against Mallorca and Levante thanks to the CSD's "cautelarísima" from January 7. This resolution was ratified three months later. However, Javier Tebas filed an appeal with the National Court on April 23 to block that decision.

The ruling from this body will be key and will be announced on September 1, right when the new judicial year begins.

The importance of 1:1 for Barça

The 1:1 concept is essential in LaLiga's financial Fair Play. Basically, clubs must keep a balance between expenses and income. For Barça, reaching this ratio before the transfer window closes, on September 1 at 11:59 p.m., is crucial.

If the club achieves the 1:1, it will be able to regularize Olmo's registration, removing his current registration and registering him again. If not, if the National Court overturns the CSD's resolution, Dani would automatically be deregistered. The transfer window would be closed and he could only play again starting January 1, with the opening of the winter transfer window.

Financial levers and the sale of assets

To get closer to 1:1, Barça has used different financial levers. This includes player departures, sponsorship agreements, and the sale of assets. One of the most important moves has been the operation involving 475 VIP seats at Spotify Camp Nou sold to Middle Eastern investors, valued at €100 million.

The club's auditor, Crowe Spain, made the operation conditional on the construction and habilitation of these seats. Until it is officially approved, the return to 1:1 remains pending.

What could happen with Dani Olmo

If the National Court rules against Barça on September 1, the club would have until 11:59 p.m. to regularize Olmo's registration. On the other hand, if the resolution is favorable to Barcelona, the 26-year-old player will be able to continue regardless of the 1:1 status.

It should be remembered that LaLiga and the RFEF deregistered Olmo in January, alleging delays in the documentation of the VIP seats operation. The CSD, however, allowed his reactivation on January 7, recognizing his right to play.
