Barça Doesn’t Hide Marc Barnal’s Situation: Agreement Reached — A Signature is Needed

While he continues his recovery, Marc Bernal has practically finalized an agreement that confirms his future

Marc Bernal, the young midfielder from Berga, has experienced a season full of ups and downs. After a brilliant summer under Hansi Flick's orders, everything seemed to point to a great future for the midfielder. Barça gave him the number "28" jersey and allowed him to make his LaLiga debut, but in the match against Rayo Vallecano on August 27, he suffered a serious knee injury.

It was a torn anterior cruciate ligament and damage to the external meniscus. This injury abruptly halted his progress and kept him out for almost a year. Since then, Marc has worked hard to return, with his sights set on next season.

Contract renewal closed: Only his signature remains

Despite the setback, FC Barcelona is certain that Bernal is an essential part of their long-term project. The club has reached a verbal agreement to extend his contract until 2029, a deal that will soon become official with the signature. The release clause is kept at €500 million, a reflection of the value the club places on this Catalan talent.

In 2024, Barça rejected several offers for Bernal, aware that he must remain at the club to establish himself. The renewal also ensures that Marc will be registered as a first-team player in the next campaign.

Recovery and hope for next season

Bernal's recovery is progressing positively. He is expected to receive medical clearance at the end of August, exactly one year after his injury. Although it is still too early to confirm, it is not ruled out that he could play in the Joan Gamper Trophy, scheduled for the first days of August.

In any case, the club will be very cautious to avoid any relapse, given the severity of his injury. During July, while the squad rests, Bernal will keep training and recovering to be ready for preseason. His return will be a much desired piece of news for Barça and their fans.

A bright and protected future

Bernal's contract is designed to protect and boost his growth. Similar to Lamine Yamal's renewal, the agreement includes a high release clause and a salary that will be progressively adjusted according to his performance.

This shows Barça's trust that Bernal will be one of the important players in the coming years. Meanwhile, while most of the squad rests and some internationals play with their national teams, Marc is working hard to return to the elite. Barça doesn't want to lose a talent who, despite his youth, has already made an impact.
