FC Barcelona achieved a narrow 1-0 victory against RCD Mallorca at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, corresponding to matchday 33 of LaLiga EA Sports 2024-2025.
The blaugrana goal was scored by Dani Olmo at the start of the second half, ending a siege on the Mallorca area in the first half. Goalkeeper Leo Román, who is not a starter for Mallorca, multiplied his efforts and stopped everything.
This triumph allows the blaugranas to maintain their lead. Now with a seven-point advantage over Real Madrid, who still have to play their match against Getafe this Wednesday.
Flick brought in the "protesters" from last week: Ferran, Ansu Fati, and Héctor Fort, the latter two especially feel marginalized. They replied, although they didn't make anyone forget Lewandowski, Raphinha, or Balde.
Leo Román Stopped Everything
From the start, the team led by Hansi Flick dominated the match, accumulating 78% possession in the first half. However, the outstanding performance of the visiting goalkeeper, Leo Román, prevented the score from changing before the break. Román made key saves, including a spectacular stop against Dani Olmo and a double save against Ferran Torres and Lamine Yamal.
The only goal of the match came at the start of the second half. Dani Olmo took advantage of an assist from Lamine Yamal to beat the opposing goalkeeper with a precise shot from inside the area.
Mallorca, meanwhile, managed to score through Mateu Morey, but the goal was disallowed for offside. VAR had to intervene to decide its validity.
Flick made rotations and wanted to rest many of his starters. Although in the end, he had to resort to Raphinha and Frenkie De Jong.
Another Soccer Festival by Pedri
Once again, Pedri was the sensation of the match. He did everything well: pinpoint passes, impossible dribbles, many steals, and miles and miles behind him.
With this victory, Barcelona adds three vital points in their fight for the title. They prepare with confidence for their upcoming commitments, including the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid.
Barça awaits events this Wednesday in Getafe. A slip-up by the Whites could allow Barça to celebrate the title with Real Madrid's visit to Montjuïc three matchdays in advance.
